Local Continentals announce scholarship recipients

The Roanoke Chapter of Continentals would like to congratulate the following 2015 scholarship recipients for their academic excellence.

Tyrrell Wilson, a Patrick Henry High School graduate will attend Lee University, studying business. The following students are from William Fleming High School: Sierra Brown plans to attend Virginia Commonwealth University, studying Mass Communications; Erin Hilton is set to attend Radford University majoring in English; and Drew Johnson scheduled to attend Old Dominion University studying criminal justice.

Mildred Johnson Scholarship Awarded

The Mildred Ann Rose Johnson Scholarship Fund awarded two Roanoke City Students with scholarships.  The ceremony took place Saturday, July 18, at Shakers Restaurant located in Roanoke. Jonah will be attending VA Tech majoring in Aerospace Engineering and Matthew will be attending Cornell University majoring in Human Biology Health & Society. The family of Mildred “Corine” Johnson is very appreciative of all the support that the Roanoke Valley has given and to Shakers Restaurant for hosting the event.

Fraternity men to cycle 4,200 miles for the disabled

On Sunday, Aug. 2 a group of fraternity men will be in Roanoke as a stop on the journey of their lives. This group of 20 cyclists and 8 crew members are participating in The Ability Experience’s Journey of Hope, a 4,200-mile cycling event across the country. Annual Felon Restoration of Voter Rights Forum slated

The United Black Veterans Society of VA will be holding it’s sixth annual Community Felon Restoration of Voter Rights Forum on Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Melrose Library, 2607 Salem Turnpike, NW. Behold your signs of guidance . . .

Anyone who launches on an unfamiliar journey will usually rely upon some form of guidance, whether by map or more modern GPS (Global Positioning System).

In mankind’s infancy such guidance often came from the foot or hoof prints of man and beast having gone before, graduating to maps of various kinds to present day modern technology.
