On Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 8 a.m., Kroger celebrated its 90th anniversary in the Roanoke Valley with the completion of two extensive remodel projects. Representing an investment of more than $7.2 million made by the grocer, the two remodeled locations include Kroger’s Vinton store, located at 915 Hardy Road, and its Daleville store, at 72 Kingston Drive.
To mark the occasion, Kroger held grand reopening ceremonies at both stores where the first 200 shoppers to arrive after 8 a.m., at each store, received a $15 gift card. Starting at 8 a.m., Kroger officials joined by local dignitaries and representatives from eight local nonprofits and schools were selected by associates from each store to receive a combined $4,000 in donations from the grocer.
Vinton store associates chose the following nonprofits and elementary schools: Rescue Mission; William Byrd High School PTSO, Herman L. Horn and W.E. Cundiff Elementary Schools.
Daleville store associates chose nonprofits: Buchanan Area Ministerial Association (BAMA) Food Pantry, League for Animal Protection; Fincastle Volunteer Fire Department and Camp Bethel.
“We’re lucky to have such an engaged group of associates at our Vinton and Daleville stores,” said Allison McGee, corporate affairs manager for Kroger Mid-Atlantic. “Coming together as a community is something that’s in our DNA at Kroger and recognizing these eight local organizations our associates are passionate about is the perfect way to celebrate the completion of these remodels.”
To honor 90 years of doing business and serving the people of the Roanoke Valley, Kroger is offering significant price cuts on select items in all stores in the Roanoke Valley, Rocky Mount, and Smith Mountain Lake. Items ranging from hot dogs to local apples will sell for just 90 cents. At the Vinton and Daleville stores only, fuel will be discounted by 29 cents a gallon from November 6 – 9.
Highlights of the Vinton remodel include the addition of a full-service Starbucks and growler bar, which created 16 local jobs. Other enhancements include new produce, meat and seafood cases, a complete deli and bakery remodel, a new culinary kiosk offering expanded sushi offerings, additional beer cases allowing for expanded offerings and a new fleet of shopping carts, in response to customer demand.
Highlights of the Daleville remodel include the addition of a new sushi case with expanded offerings, new meat and seafood cases, a new floral shop, eight new self-checkouts and all new check-out lanes, an upgraded pharmacy, new customer restrooms, updated décor throughout the store and a repaved parking lot.
