Family Service of Roanoke Valley will organize over 500 Roanoke Valley youth to lead projects that improve their communities on Saturday April 18, 11:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at Washington Park. Family Service is serving as a State Farm Agency for Global Youth Service Day as designated by Youth Service America (YSA).
As the lead agency, Family Service’s Teen Outreach Program (TOP) teens are planning and organizing the event. Service projects are post-service celebration at Washington Park will impact family violence prevention, multiculturalism, safe driving, and healthy living.
Volunteer opportunities include: a blood drive, animal advocacy, children’s health and welfare, environmental enthusiasts, elderly outreach, poverty prevention, for veterans, and much more. Local sponsors of GYSD include Member One Federal Credit Union, First Citizen Bank and SERCAP.
The Roanoke Law Foundation will present the 6th annual “You and the Law” program on April 21, at the Sheraton Roanoke Hotel & Conference Center. This year’s “You and the Law: Senior Symposium” will focus on issues that affect all seniors. The event is free.
