Every alternating year, Habitat organizes a collaborative Apostles Build where churches of all sizes and denominations from all over the Greater Roanoke Valley pledge financial support and send volunteers from the congregation to help build a home for a hard-working, vulnerable family in need of safe, fair, affordable homeownership.
Brian Clark, Habitat for Humanity in Roanoke’s Construction Director, explains that “Unless you’ve been on a Habitat work site during an Apostles Build, you may not be able to grasp the energy and enthusiasm felt by so many churches that support that help build the ceremonial Apostles Wall of Faith build. The last 12 months have been so difficult with regard to the rising cost of supplies and the deficit in volunteer labor, so it’s rejuvenating to see so many groups come together for a common goal.”
“We treasure the Apostles Build because it’s Habitat’s chance to honor its Christian values and fundamentals, said Director of Development, Niki Voudren. It’s inspiring to build alongside 22 local, participating churches and The Journey FM join us and share the spirit of working together to improve the community through faith, sweat and fundraising.”
About Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley (HFHRV) is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing through constructing and rehabilitating homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter should be a matter of conscience and action for all.
Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley works in partnership with homeowner families to build high-quality, affordable homes which are purchased by our partner families with no-profit mortgages. Homeowner mortgage payments are then cycled back into construction cost to offset expenses for the next home.
