Benefit NAACP/ACT-SO
In an effort to raise funds for the National ACT-SO competition in Philadelphia, PA, the Roanoke Branch NAACP will sponsor the 2nd annual “Jazz on the Lawn” benefit show on Sunday, June 28, from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. at 3646 Cove Road, (Clint Barlow’s property). Tickets are $10.00 and donations are also being accepted.
This year, five high school students won gold medals and will compete in the National ACT-SO (Afro-Academic Cultural Technological Scientific Olympics) Competition, July 9-12.
The following students will represent the Roanoke Branch NAACP: Kai Washington-Brown, a rising junior at William Fleming HS, dance category; Jasmine Armster, a rising senior at William Fleming HS, Medicine & Health; Danae Antoine, a rising sophomore at WFHS, Visual Arts-Drawing; Curtis Staples, Jr., a rising senior at Salem HS-Business/Entrepreneurship and Aishah Brown, a 2015 graduate of Salem HS-Poetry Vocal.
Kudos to The PT Band; Patice Holland; Brian Thompson; and Sophisticated Soundz by Bernadette Jones who will be performing that afternoon. All have graciously given of their time to help with this program, including Mr. Barlow for allowing the NAACP to use his property. However, the Branch still needs financial assistance to help with this trip.
Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, coolers and your listening ears to this evening of relaxation and good music. Fried fish sandwiches will be available for purchase. Please come out and help make this program a success.
