Alma Bernice Clark Gravely, formerly of Christiansburg, VA, and wife of the late Retired Vice Admiral Samuel L. Gravely Jr., was wished a happy 100th birthday on Saturday, Dec. 11th. The celebration was held at Samuel L. Gravely Jr. Elementary School in Haymarket, VA.
Birthday wishes were extended with attendees from as far as Texas and California, along with many others from local and surrounding areas. Rev. and Mrs. Donald Shovely of Roanoke, nephew and niece of Mrs. Gravely attended the celebration. Mrs. Gravely was interviewed by local WUSA9-TV and told news reporters “she is looking to being a centenarian. I have had a good life and over the years traveled to 7 or 8 countries.”
Mrs. Gravely’s daughter, Tracy, scheduled this celebration before her actual birthday, which falls on December 22. She recognizes that this time of year is a busy time and asked her mom if she would celebrate early. Reluctantly, she said Yes.
All in attendance wished “Aunt Alma” a happy and blessed birthday with special presentations, poems, flowers, cards and congratulatory letter from Governor Ralph Northam.
A fun time was had by all and Mrs. Gravely was over-joyed with her birthday celebration. You may listen to the full interview on YouTube WUSA9.com. “Virginia woman celebrates 100 years of life.”
