LewisGale organizes Regional Inaugural Cinco de Mammo event
LewisGale Regional Health System announced plans for its inaugural Cinco de Mammo event on May 5, a special mammogram-screening event during special hours at its four hospitals across Southwest Virginia. The themed event, organized in conjunction with the Mexican holiday Cinco de Mayo, is a platform to promote breast cancer awareness while emphasizing the importance of getting an annual breast mammography exam.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, patients all over the region put off yearly mammograms,” said Tom Elmore, diagnostic imaging director. “Annual mammograms are proven to make a difference in positive outcomes for breast cancer patients, and this is a fun way to encourage folks to make the call and schedule their appointments.”
As part of the celebration, each hospital is offering complimentary chips and salsa, virgin margaritas, and mariachi music.
“We’re planning for themed snacks, mocktails, and activities,” said April Woodward, vice president of oncology for LewisGale Regional Health System.
Special hours for annual mammograms are scheduled at the following locations across Southwest Virginia. To schedule, call the following LewisGale (LG) information and Virginia locations for Wednesday, May 5: LG Alleghany Hospital, 1 ARH Lane, Low Moor, (540) 862-6879, and LG Pulaski Hospital, 2400 Lee Highway, Pulaski, (540) 994-8509, and LG Medical Center, 1802 Braeburn Drive, Salem, (540) 776-4983, and from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at LG Imaging Montgomery Center, 813 Davis St., Blacksburg, (540) 443-9900.
