Since the expansion of New Horizons Healthcare’s (NHH) Behavioral Health Program to include a dedicated pediatric behavioral health consultant last year, the program has already seen growth in less than twelve months. Funded in part by the Virginia Health Care Foundation (VHCF), this program is currently addressing the unique behavioral health needs of youth in the Roanoke community in a post-pandemic environment.
Julia Scales, Behavioral Health Consultant, has been working from the NHH main location on Melrose Avenue to provide evidence-based pediatric behavioral health screening and assessment; parenting education and coaching; and management of behavioral health issues with medical comorbidities. “Being integrated with pediatric medical care has allowed us to provide a greater focus on the health of the whole child and whole family. Healthy minds and healthy bodies equal healthier families. With this model of care, we have now been able to offer same-day access to behavioral health services. In the future, we look to continue to build partnerships with the community and expand to include support groups and parenting classes.”
Those seeking pediatric behavioral services should complete and return the online patient enrollment form: on the New Horizons website. New Horizons Healthcare is a non-profit, community health center that is dedicated to providing culturally appropriate, affordable, high-quality and comprehensive healthcare to the underserved people in the greater Roanoke area.
