The Roanoke NAACP Youth Council presented their 10th annual “Impactors of Excellence Awards” program on Sunday, March 5, at Morning Star Baptist Church 1513 Rorer Ave, at 4:00 pm honoring 8 members of the community.
As a Black History program and a fundraiser, the members honored African Americans in the Roanoke Valley who have made a positive impact on the lives of youth and others in the Roanoke Valley. This was a very successful program with many in attendance.
The 2023 honorees include Dr. Verletta White, DeRon Lark, Anthony Swann, Dr. Jason Wimbush, India Anderson, Councilwoman Vivian Sanchez-Jones, and Dr. Pernella Chubb-Wilson.
The members of the Roanoke NAACP Youth Council are grateful to Morning Star Baptist Church, the attendees, and the participants of the program.
In addition, the Roanoke NAACP Youth Council will hold its annual election electronically on Sunday, April 23 at 6 pm, the same time as the regular meeting. All members who are in compliance will receive an email or a text message with a ballot of the names of the candidates. Each member will be given 1 hour to complete the ballot. The leaders are asking every financially active member to vote.
The youth appreciate the community’s financial support and will strive to continue to make a difference in the Roanoke Valley. Jayveon Tucker is the current president. Gloria Randolph-King is the advisor with Lorena Wilson and Dawn Bryant serving as co-advisors.
