The Marcus M. Wilson Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce its 2023 scholarship recipients. The selection process was very competitive. As always, we wish that we had enough funds to award everyone a scholarship. We had an excellent pool of candidates and are appreciative of all who took the time to complete and submit an application for consideration. The successful applicants were Amira Alderman, and Yolanda Joseph of Patrick Henry HS, Harper Gunn, and Miles Wilson, all graduates of William Fleming High School.
Yolanda, the daughter of Louis and Marilaise Joseph, is a freshman at George Mason University majoring in Business Management. Harper, the daughter of Trey and Heather Harper Gunn, is attending Old Dominion and majoring in English. Almira, the daughter of Regina Alderman, is attending Penn State Abington and seeking a dual degree in Psychology and Social Science. Miles Wilson, the son of Richard and Tracey Wilson, is joining the freshman class at University of Virginia pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
The Marcus M. Wilson Scholarship was established more than 13 years ago by the parents of Marcus, Marvin, and Lorena Wilson. This scholarship celebrates the life of Marcus Wilson who died in 2010 by helping young people achieve their dreams. To date, more than 51 young people have been helped since its inception. Funds for the scholarship come from donations and fundraisers.
