There’s a new place in Roanoke specifically for individuals interested in seeking a healthier lifestyle.
In addition to Little Green Hive and Roanoke Mountain Adventure, the Crafteria at 16 W Church Avenue is now home to a wellness and fitness center. Currently, the 3,500-square-foot facility boasts Ferguson Fitness, Fleet Feet and Core Chiropractic. Personal and small-group fitness training sessions are available upon request.
“Some have wanted this for a long time in part because of the ideal location,” Andrew Gardner said. “In the nearly 20 years that I have called the Star City home, it’s pretty easy to discern which ideas will thrive and which ones likely won’t. If utilized properly, I believe this new wellness hub can be a true life-changer. At any given time during the week, you can find dozens of people exchanging ideas, eating and talking at the Crafteria.”
Owned by Garland Properties, longtime developer John Garland, who specializes in property management and commercial leasing, says he’s 100 percent committed to bringing a health-focused, vibrant atmosphere to the downtown area.
In the back of her mind, Tammy Thomas knew it was just a matter of time before the Crafteria would offer more to the community.
“Something of this magnitude doesn’t happen overnight. I hope people take full advantage of everything available to them. From the conversations that I’ve had with family and friends, some of them said they will certainly be utilizing the center’s services,” she said.
Over the years, the Crafteria building has undergone various transformations.
Per its website, “In our midcentury cafeteria building, find small batch food and handmade goods from nearby craftspeople plus a record shop, food windows and more. We’re all about small-batch packaged foods. From chai masala chocolates to pimento cheese popcorn to creative cocktail bitters, these treats make delicious gifts for others or yourself.”
Speaking about what she is most looking forward to about the wellness center, Kristi Coleman said, “When I heard that this was actually happening, it brought a huge smile to my face. I sometimes need motivation to eat healthier and exercise regularly. Being surrounded by like-minded individuals that hold each other accountable will be great for me.”
Wrote Sherry Quinley on social media, “How exciting is it to have a new wellness hub in downtown Roanoke.”
Investing in a wellness initiative can be a win-win for all involved. Now that things are up and running, the expectation is for new people to sign up every month.
