A Democratic primary election for lieutenant governor, attorney general and in the 40th House of Delegates district will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
Only residents registered in precincts 15-Grandin Court, 16-Deyerle and 17-Lee-Hi will see the House District 40 primary on their ballot. All other Roanoke City precincts are in House District 38.
The Republican primary election for lieutenant governor has been cancelled following the official withdrawal of candidate Patrick S. “Pat” Herrity filed with the Department of Elections on April 22. All other Republican nominees have been declared.
The prevailing candidate in each primary contest will advance to the general election scheduled for Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
Virginia does not have voter registration by political party. All registered voters are eligible to participate in the June 17 primary election. An acceptable form of identification is required to cast your ballot.
Beginning Friday, May 2, city residents may vote early at the Office of Voter Registration and Elections, located at 317 Kimball Avenue NE, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Early voting will also be offered on Saturdays June 7 and June 14 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Voters on the permanent absentee list who made a primary ballot selection on their application will begin to receive their ballots the week of May 5. Please be patient as our staff meticulously assembles each absentee ballot mailing by hand.
All polling places across the Commonwealth will be open on Election Day from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Voters in line at the close of polls will be permitted to vote.
