Jacksonville, N.C. – Roanoke’s own Jamarion Henderson once again represented his city and the Commonwealth of Virginia with distinction, competing at the Silver Gloves Regional Championships held January 9–11 in Jacksonville, North Carolina.
As the 2025 Virginia Silver Gloves State Champion in the Junior 138-pound division, Henderson earned the honor of representing Virginia against top young talent from across the region. Fighting under the banner of Champ’s Gym, a division of Melrose Athletic Club, Inc., Henderson advanced to the semifinals of the highly competitive tournament.
In the semifinal bout, Henderson faced Josiah Williams of Thump Yard Boxing in Hyattsville, Maryland, who entered the competition ranked No. 4 in the nation. The opening round was a measured, tactical contest as both fighters sized each other up. In the second round, Henderson turned up the intensity, landing clean shots and making Williams feel his power.
The bout came down to a hard-fought third round, with both young boxers leaving everything in the ring. Williams ultimately earned a close unanimous decision, but Henderson’s performance drew praise for his skill, composure, and heart against one of the nation’s top-ranked fighters.
“Jamarion represented Roanoke and the state of Virginia extremely well,” said coaches at Champ’s Gym. “He continues to show growth, discipline, and the kind of competitive spirit that points to a very bright future.”
Henderson’s run at the Silver Gloves Regional Championships adds to a growing list of accomplishments for Champ’s Gym and underscores the program’s long-standing commitment to developing young athletes both in and out of the ring.
With his work ethic and determination, Jamarion Henderson remains one of Roanoke’s rising stars in amateur boxing – and the best is clearly yet to come.
