The 2015 Debutante Ball is in high gear this year with ten young ladies and their escorts participating. The Altruist Club of Roanoke is celebrating its 62nd year of presenting the ball to be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27 at Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center. Throughout the years the Debutantes and their escorts, Debutantes of Tomorrow, Prince/Princesses and club members as a community service have donated canned goods to prepare Thanksgiving baskets including turkey and all the trimmings for a bountiful meal for distribution to those in need. Also during the six plus decades of this event, more than $200,000 in scholarships and grants has been awarded to more than 2,000 debutantes.
