On Christmas Day, 2015, members of the Roanoke Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta and Ms. Jabberwock 2015, Sydnee Evans brought Christmas Cheer to families who have infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
The chapter’s Mental and Physical Health Committee sponsored this event. The members served lunch to the families and Ms. Jabberwock 2015 shared the story about her prematurity, which resulted in a three month NICU stay, which included Christmas Day 1999, at this hospital. Sydnee also shared stories of her overcoming the odds of prematurity and other health related issues.
Bringing Christmas Cheer in the way of fellowship, food and encouraging stories was the committee’s effort of giving a glimmer of hope to the families for their miracle babies and to show them that the Deltas and others were willing to provide them with unconditional support and kindness.
Dr. Deneen Evans is the Physical and Mental Health chairperson. Diane Jones is the chapter president.
