The Roanoke Chapter Continental Societies, Inc. presented the 5th annual “Black Girls Really Rock program on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016 in the William Fleming High School auditorium.
Continental Lorena Wilson served as an excellent Mistress of Ceremony while other Continental members introduced the honorees and presented each with a beautiful award. Eight area women who have been positive role models and public servants were honored with each continuing to make an impact within the Roanoke Valley.
Honorees were Patricia Curtis (local business); Marylen Harmon (education); Brenda Howard (philanthropy); Diane Jones (community service); Melinda Payne
(community activist); Anita Price (civic leader); Gloria Randolph-King (political action) and Carla Shepherd (humanitarian).
In addition, four high school girls who are making a difference in their communities were also honored with the 2016 (M.A.D.) Girls awards. They were Jasmine Armster, (William Fleming); Denashia Dunnaville (Northside); Sydnee Evans (Roanoke Valley Christian School and 2015 Miss Jabberwock) and Kaitlyn Shaw (William Fleming and 2015 Miss Roanoke Teen, USA.
Continental Angel, Kai Washington-Brown who had been honored as a M.A.D. recipient introduced the honorees and presented their beautiful awards. Kai, also, showcased her skill as a very talented dancer.
The praise dance presented by Morgan McAfee (U.S. Military) was outstanding and so inspirational. Many were moved by such a compelling performance.
After the program, the Honoree Reception was held in the school cafeteria for all in attendance. President Donna Lee, Chairperson, Linda Journiette and her committee are deeply grateful to all who made the 2016 Black Girls Really Rock program a great success.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the Continental scholarship fund.
