Rebecca Francis and Brenda Price Smith, Class of 1959 visit Cuba in March with Woman of Substance Spa Group, Inc (WSSG) established 10 years ago by R. Francis Travel Pro, Inc., a travel agency owned by Rebecca Francis in Washington, DC.
Members of the group had friends joining them from New York, Texas, Arkansas, Chicago, Miami, Maryland and DC as part of the people-to-people program.
The 10-day Land and Sea Cuba Package scheduled daily tours from the ship that served as the hotel. Places visited included Havana and other destinations in Cuba, Pinar del Rio, Maria la Gorda, Santiago del Cuba, Cienfuegos and a full day in Montego Bay, Jamaica before returning to the United States.
Pictures were taken of the American Embassy along with visits to the home of Ernest Hemingway, the site of the Castro Revolution, John Lenno’s park, day care center, opera house, schools, the tobacco factory where the famous Cuba cigars are rolled, and much more!
The tour ended with a farewell dinner and a famous show at the Tropicana Club. Cuba is known for its different brands of Rum, especially Barcardi and the drinks Mojito and Christal beer. The Cubans were excited about the historical visit of President Obama and the Rolling Stones concert. What a great experience seeing the old Cuba before future changes are made.
