The Roanoke (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity had its Annual Stuart – Dillard Kappa Relays Track Meet on Wednesday, March 23.
The event is a city-wide middle school track meet that awards athletes for their athletic and academic success.
Coach Sherley Stuart helped start this event at William Fleming High School on a gravel track over 30 years ago. Coach Rudy Dillard also played an instrumental part of the Kappa Relays helping to organize the event for many years until his passing in August 2013.
Roanoke City Middle School track teams participating in the event included James Breckinridge, James Madison, Lucy Addison, Woodrow Wilson, and Stonewall Jackson. Awards were presented to team members who placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the various track and field events.
Additionally, coaches from each school selected a male and female student to receive an award plaque for outstanding academic achievement.
James Madison was the overall meet winner of the relays for the boys track team. James Breckinridge Middle School was the overall meet winner of the relays for the girls track team.
Chapter member Tommy Bowles worked with Mr. F.L. Slough, Director of Athletics – Middle School, to organize this event for the Roanoke Alumni Chapter.
