Summer Starts Here! Fight summer “brain drain” and earn prizes, too by participating in a Roanoke County Public Library Summer Reading Program. For years, the Roanoke County Public Library has offered challenging and fun summer reading activities and this year is no different. With programs for infants to seniors, there’s no reason not to incorporate reading into your summer.
To kick off the summer fun the South County Library will have a party to show that “Summer Starts Here!” The event is for all ages and will include a petting zoo, live music, pizza, a rock-climbing wall, and you can register for the Summer Reading Program. The party will be on Friday, June 10 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. This year, everyone that registers will receive a keychain. This keychain will get participants into local businesses at a free or discounted rate either all summer long or on a specific date.
Below are the local participating businesses included: Mill Mountain Zoo, B&D Comic Shop, Dairy Queen, Glazed Bisque-It, Splash Valley, Science Museum of Western Virginia, Minute Muffler Auto Shop, and River Rock Climbing. The keychain is not the only incentive. There are many more prizes and programs throughout summer!
Registrations are underway currently for any information at any Roanoke County branch library; the program ends August 5. For questions call the South County Library at 540-772-7507.
