In an effort to raise funds for the National ACT-SO competition being held this year in Cincinnati, OH, the Roanoke Branch NAACP will sponsor the 3rd annual “Jazz on the Lawn” benefit show on Sunday, July 10, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 3646 Cove Road, (Clint Barlow’s property). Tickets are $10.00 with donations also being accepted.
This year, three high school students who won gold medals will compete in the National ACT-SO (Afro-Academic Cultural Technological Scientific Olympics) Competition, July 14-17, 2016. The following students will represent the Roanoke Branch NAACP in the area of Visual Arts: LaRon Glenn (drawing), a rising junior at William Fleming HS; Monica Hackett, (Photography) a 2016 Patrick Henry HS graduate and NeKeah Stokes (Painting), a 2016 William Fleming HS graduate.
The Sophizticated Soundz by Bernadette Jones and Brian Thompson, the performers that afternoon will graciously give of their time to help with this program. The NAACP is also grateful to Mr. Barlow for allowing the NAACP use of his property. However; NAACP’s ACT-SO program still needs financial assistance to help with this trip.
Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, coolers and your listening ears to this evening of relaxation and good music. Fried fish sandwiches will be available for purchase. Please come out and help make this program a success!
