Jane Powell was best described by her friend Tony Bennett when he said, “A certain talent comes along every 20 years or so, and Jane is it.”
Friendship Living is proud to have the talented Jane Powell perform at its next installation of the Summer Concert Series on Saturday, July 23. The concerts take place at the Friendship amphitheatre located in the back of Friendship’s campus at 450 Springbeauty Street in Roanoke. Opening the show at 5:30 p.m. is blues artist Gabriel Morales from the Jefferson Center Music Lab and Jane Powell taking the stage at 6:00 p.m.
Every concert this summer features a different non-profit beneficiary that will receive all proceeds from admission. For July, the recipient will be JDRF Greater Blue Ridge.
Roanoke native and R&B/Jazz vocalist, Jane L. Powell will be the featured performer for the evening. With a voice brimming with love, joy, and laughter that carries you away, Jane has entertained Queen Elizabeth II, sang as a featured performer for Oprah Winfrey’s 2009 Mediterranean charter cruise, stole the night from legend Ray Charles, and still presents knockout shows that listeners rave about — decades later.
Open to the public, concert admission is $5 at the door and free for children under 12. All proceeds from admission will be collected to support the work of JDRF Greater Blue Ridge. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets for the concert. Food and beverage trucks will be on-site as well during the concert. No outside food will be allowed.
