On August 22, 2016, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Virginia will launch a brand new mentoring program in partnership with the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center and Montgomery County Schools. This program will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and will allow children facing adversity to have exposure to STEM careers.
In preparation for the needs of this program, BBBS is collecting 10,000 Lego Bricks and Sets through the Legos for Littles campaign. These Legos will allow our mentoring matches to explore STEM through construction activities.
The campaign will run through August 12 and Lego Brick donations can be dropped off in the lobby of 1715 Pratt Drive, Blacksburg, VA 24060 as well as at the VTCRC Tenant Picnic on August 12.
BBBS believes in the inherent potential in every child. Many of the children BBBS serves live in poverty, most come from single-parent homes, and many have one or both parents incarcerated. When a Little is matched with a volunteer Big, they create a new friendship, inspire new and improved outlooks on life, and have a great time together.
