On Saturday, Dec. 3, friends and family gathered at the home of Mrs. Lessie Lula Jones Polk to celebrate her birthday, on December 29. She was showered with gifts and many had participated in forwarding messages for her memory book. She was presented a Proclamation from Mayor Sherman P. Lea, Sr. declaring it “Lessie Jones Polk Day.”
Vice Mayor Anita James Price also presented her with a “Star” and stated she was “a star in the City of Roanoke.”
State Senator John Edward, also brought greetings from the Governor who declared the Month of December, Lessie Jones Polk month. The overwhelmed honoree was pleased to see everyone and was especially thankful for the 100 plus people who came by to share in this occasion done by her children Ralph and Gloria.
