Black Wizzes of Science is a new and exciting educational enrichment program that has been developed by honor student, Ajnah M. Tolliver at age 15. This program merges unearthed historic evidence with refreshingly youthful and creative activities to provide the optimal educational experience in a series of one hour-long sessions! Course materials are founded on the research of globally exclaimed Black scholars such as Dr. Ivan Van Sertima, Dr. John Henrik-Clarke as well as others, to showcase the irrefutable accomplishments of Black individuals and Black societies across the African diaspora.
Black Wizzes of Science has been created to enhance a wide-range of learning styles through the utilization of visually stimulating PowerPoint presentations, auditory videos, tactile learning tasks, friendly competitions, group activities, and a rewards system. The program promotes a warm and nurturing learning environment based on African-centered principles of community and working together.
Currently, Black Wizzes of Science is comprised of three learning course sessions, in addition to a competitive review session. Scientific topics explored include these areas of science: astronomy, medicine, and engineering and architecture (these are taught during the same session). At the conclusion of the educational course series there is a friendly competition event known as the Wiz Quiz Bowl, which tests the retention of newly gained knowledge.
