The Roanoke Chapter of The Links, Inc. has awarded scholarships to three graduating high school seniors— Tariana Carter, a graduate of Patrick Henry High School; Kenai Hunt, and Aaryana Webb, both graduates of William Fleming High School.
Tariana Carter, the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship is the daughter of Tarnicha Terry. She has been accepted to Spellman College and plans to become a physician business owner and “an advocate for Black girls!”
Kenai Hunt, daughter of Dawn Hunt, was senior class president at Fleming and president of the Roanoke NAACP Youth Council was also recipient of a $1,000 scholarship. She plans to attend Winston-Salem State University, majoring in education with a concentration in special education.
Aaryana Webb, the daughter of Aaron and Vickie Webb, is the recipient of a $500 scholarship, she also plans to attend Winston-Salem State University, majoring in business administration with a minor in entrepreneurship. She will complete her state board exams in cosmetology this summer to obtain her license in cosmetology. Her plan is to open and operate a full-service salon and spa.
“All three exceptional young ladies are highly motivated and committed to excellence in education,” said Anita James Price, chair of the Roanoke Chapter’s Scholarship Committee. “We salute their accomplishments and encourage them in their future aspirations.”
Roanoke is one of 283 chapters of The Links, Inc. one of the oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry. President of the Roanoke chapter is Connie Steele; vice president is Dr. Jennifer Alston. Scholarship Committee members are Anita James Price, Sandi Davis, Betty Coates Jones, Verna Lewis, Brenda Miller, Taisha Steele and Marion Vaughn-Howard.
