The Roanoke NAACP Youth Council will present its “5th Annual Impactors of Excellence Awards” program on Sunday, March 4, at 4:00pm at High Street Baptist Church.
The youth are extremely excited about recognizing and honoring this set of individuals from the Roanoke Valley who have made a positive impact in their lives and are continuing with today’s youth.
This year’s Impactors are: Tami Anderson Amos, educator and mentor; a former RCPS Administrator, intervention Specialist who is currently seeking her PhD at Virginia Tech and serving as a Graduate Recruiter in the Office of Recruitment and Diversity; Richard Chubb, retired; former principal of Hurt Park Elem; well known advocate for community justice and fairness; owner of Chubb Counseling Services; Harry Clarke “Duke” Curtis, president of Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home, second generation funeral service licensee; Deacon and recreational Director at High Street Baptist Church, local activist, altruist and community servant; Alvin R. Graves, retired; record holding coach of track, football, and basketball at Ruffner, Addison & WFHS for 38 years; currently serves as youth mentor and security at WFHS; Rev. L.A. Lewis, pastor of Morning Star Baptist Church; outstanding community and church leader; youth mentor and supporter; Lauran Deanna Morgan, administrative Support Specialist in the Guidance Department at William Fleming High School, choreographer and praise dance leader at Cloverdale Baptist Church; and program advisor; mentors girls in the “Be the Next Girl” and the “Save the Next Girl”; Rhonda Chambers Rhodes, teacher and certified Montessori teacher at Round Hill Elementary School; Mentor with the ELLE Academy, praise dance choreographer and dancer; Tiffany Kelso Williams, coordinator of School Counseling at Northside High School in Roanoke County Public Schools for 14 years; former teacher and counselor at Jackson Middle School.
This exciting program will feature the outstanding WFHS/PPHS Gospel Choir, NAACP youth members and Bernadette Jones-Brown with “Victorious Praise.”
There will be a “free will” offering and the group will accept other donations from those who cannot attend. All proceeds will benefit the Roanoke NAACP Youth Council as funds are needed to attend the 108th Annual NAACP National Convention in San Antonio, Texas; as well as, the Virginia State NAACP Convention and other training meetings.
