FemCity Roanoke and CoLab Roanoke are partnering to offer a series of inclusive entrepreneurship workshops for women beginning on May 23 at 5:30 p.m. The first in the series is an interactive, human-centered design thinking workshop, led by Innovation agent, Samantha Steidle, and President of FemCity Roanoke, Beth Bell. Using the process and tools developed by IDEO.org, this workshop will introduce participants to human-centered design in social innovation and will focus on solving challenges faced by female entrepreneurs and other women in business. Participants will be able to apply the same methodology to their own customer discovery process to strengthen their product and services.
Community members are invited to participant. Please register at femcityroanoke.com or by emailing Roanoke@femcity.com.
Inclusive entrepreneurship communities help level the playing field for underrepresented minorities such as people of color and women by: Closing the gap in opportunities to start, sustain and scale a business; Creating partnerships with community partners to provide business resources and networks and Developing ecosystems to develop more start up opportunities which in turn creates jobs.
Sacil Armstrong, Creativity and Empowerment Coach, says “as a Black woman with a chronic illness, inclusiveness is very important to me. Entrepreneurship can offer a path to independence that can be hard to find in traditional employment, especially for someone with a disability or chronic illness. Connecting with other female entrepreneurs, receiving and offering support, and watching what others are doing has done wonders for my confidence and my beliefs about what I can accomplish.”
Additional upcoming workshops offered by FemCity Roanoke include: June 20: Let Go! The effects of Fear to our Mind and Bodies and Tools to Let it Go! by Sacil Armstrong, Intuitive Coach at Art & Being.
July 18: The Art of Abundance: Managing Your Money Mindset with Emma Churchman.
August 15: DYI Public Relations with Stevii Aisha Mills, author, speaker and Public Relations coach.
