The Rescue Mission has broken yet another fundraising record with its popular Union Bank and Trust Drumstick DASH 5K, and the race isn’t even held until Thanksgiving Day!
“We’re so grateful to our corporate sponsors,” Chief Development Officer Tracy Altizer says. “They continue to rally around the Rescue Mission with this event, and this year they’ve done it to the tune of $161,000, not to mention another $80,000 of critical in-kind support.”
The 2017 sponsorships accounted for a record $156,000 of the fundraising total, an increase of 14% from the previous year. Race Director Uneita Mathews hopes that bodes well for the Mission’s goal this year of raising $300,000 between sponsorships and registrations to help feed homeless families at the Rescue Mission, which would set an overall fundraising record for the event.
“We expect registrations to continue picking up this week since Monday, Nov. 12 was the last day to register and guarantee your T-shirt size, says Mathews. “But people can still register right up until race time and they always do. There’s nothing like being downtown on Thanksgiving morning and seeing 13,000 runners and walkers gathered to move their feet so others can eat!”
New this year, the Rescue Mission is offering custom DASH beanies and sweatshirts as incentives for participants to also sign up as individual fundraisers.
Race packet and t-shirt pick up takes place Nov. 19-22 from 7:00am to 6:00pm. Register online at drumstickdash.net or in person at the Mission.
