In honor of Martin Luther King Day, U.S. Cellular joins youth from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia to kick off the 12th annual Black History Month Art Contest. During the month of January, youth created original 8.5 x 11 pieces of artwork in recognition of influential African-Americans, including business people, athletes, historical figures and celebrities. Ten finalists will be chosen and the Roanoke, Salem, Christiansburg and Rocky Mount communities will be invited to vote for their favorites in local U.S. Cellular stores in February.
“We love working with the Boys & Girls Club on this contest and are inspired seeing the thoughtfulness, creativity and talent that the kids showcase through their artwork,” said Bertram Daniels, area sales manager. “We are honored to display their creations in our stores and celebrate our country’s diversity during Black History Month.”
The 10 finalists’ artwork will be chosen by representatives from the Boys & Girls Club and local U.S. Cellular leaders. Those creations will be displayed in select U.S. Cellular stores, Feb. 1 – 28, and anyone 18 and older can visit a store to vote for their favorite. The top three vote getters will be announced in March. Prizes are gift cards in the amounts of $500 for 1st place, $200 for 2nd place, and $150 for 3rd place.
Voting will take place in the following U.S. Cellular stores: 4760 Valley View Blvd., Roanoke, 832 Tanyard Road, Rocky Mount, VA, 1420 West Main St., Salem, VA, and 103 Conston Ave. in Christiansburg, VA.
