The Roanoke NAACP Youth Council will present its 6th annual “Impactors of Excellence Awards” program on Sunday, March 3, at 4:00 pm at High Street Baptist Church, 2502 Florida Ave., NW.
Honorees will be African-American leaders in the Roanoke Valley who have made a positive impact on the lives of youth and others. Honorees are: Vickie Briggs, Roanoke Parks & Recreation Supervisor/Mentor; Dawn Bryant, Beautician/School Supporter, Reyhan Deskins, WFHS Asst. Principal/Mentor; Xavier Duckett, owner of Humble Hustle/Role Model; Peggy Sue Mason, retired Educator/Community Activist; Salena Morton, RCPS Education Coach/Mentor; Sonnya Preston, 2018 Salem City Schools Divisional Teacher of the Year; Jerel “Tank” Rhodes, RCPS Counselor/Community Leader, Rev. Dr. Johnny Stone, pastor of Hill Street Baptist Church Leader and Deidre Trigg, Virtual Sales Support Technician/Community Leader.
Members of the council, along with the William Fleming/Patrick Henry Gospel Choir, the Kara Praise dancers, High Street Baptist and the Psalms III of Hill Street Baptist Church will provide entertainment.
