BLACKSBURG – Sharrika Adams, associate dean of students at Virginia Tech, has been given the additional responsibility of director, student advocacy.
Adams will provide oversight for the daily advocacy operation and supervise a staff of six professionals, convene the weekly care team meetings, and serve as liaison to stakeholders and partners on campus.
“Sharrika has been an integral member of the Dean of Students Office team,” said Tom Brown, dean of students. “She is a passionate and committed student crisis manager.”
Adams has been at Virginia Tech for 16 years, serving in a number of positions within the Division of Student Affairs. Most recently, she worked as interim director for Multicultural Programs and Services before returning to the Dean of Students Office, leading the advocacy team in advocacy and crisis management services.
Adams is a member of the American College Personnel Association and the Higher Education Case Managers Association. She is active within the local community and has served on the board of directors for the Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley.
Adams received her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Wake Forest University and a doctoral degree from Virginia Tech.
