The 17th Annual Blue Ridge Kite Festival will return to Green Hill Park, nestled in the rolling hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on Saturday, April 18. Hosted by the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Kroger, this community event offers free parking, free admission, free kids t-shirts, and free Kroger kites while supplies last.
New this year, Freedom First Federal Credit Union will be providing a limited supply of free ice cream, fun for all ages.
The festival boasts attendance of more than 10,000 from all over the states of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. The Richmond Air Force Kite Club will dazzle the crowd with enormous handmade kites and extraordinary flying stunts.
It is a great outdoor day of kite fun and celebration accented by many happy kite flyers of all skill levels. In addition to arts, crafts, and corporate vendors, tasty goodies will be provided by amazing food vendors. The field is large enough for kids to run and fly kites, while others may nap on a blankets, stare at the kite filled sky, or simply enjoy excellent people watching event happenings across the park.
