The local chapter of NC A&T State University Alumni Association will be honoring the life of Dr. M.L. King, Jr., at their 23rd Annual Breakfast on January 20. This year’s speaker will be Bishop George W. Brooks, pastor emeritus of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Greensboro, NC, where he served faithfully as Chief Elder and Senior Pastor for 37 years. Under his leadership, Mount Zion Baptist Church became an international ministry that grew from less than 100 to over 5,000 with missions in West Africa and Haiti. His ministry is devoted to promoting a clear understanding of scripture and bringing Godly change in the communities of the world. He is co-founder of Welfare Reform Liaison Project, a vehicle by which welfare recipients are empowered to become self-sufficient. This project has become a national model. Along with many other prestigious awards, Bishop Brooks has also been granted the “Order of the Long Leaf Pine” given by the Governor of North Carolina and inducted into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame.
Bishop Brooks holds degrees from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Shaw University and earned a Doctorate of Ministry degree from Friends International Christian University in Merced, CA.
A native of Hillsborough, NC, Bishop and his wife Edna are the parents of to Edna and they are the parents of Kevin (Kim) and Keva (Calvin), and have five grandchildren, Jocelyn, Kiandra, Keyon, Gavin, Kale.
The breakfast will be held from 8 – 10a.m. on January 20, 2020 at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center.
