Grammy Award Winning Superstars, Jazz & Blues artist
HIGH POINT, NC – The 9th Annual John Coltrane International Jazz and Blues Festival will bring an array of superstars and Grammy Award winning artists whose music ranges from contemporary and mainstream jazz, to authentic salsa and bonafide blues.
The lineup for Saturday includes contemporary jazz and multi-instrumentalist Brian Culbertson, saxophonist and jazz elder statesman Benny Golson joined by vocalist Nnenna Freelon, the indomitable Spanish Harlem Orchestra, and Lisa Fischer, Laurin Talese will also perform with the N.C. Coltrane All-Star Band, led by Mondre Moffett, director of the jazz ensemble and Black Music Studies at North Carolina A&T State University.
On Sunday, the lineup includes multi-platinum selling contemporary jazz saxophonist Boney James who joins the duo of legendary status-organist Joey DeFrancesco performing with saxophonist Pharoah Sanders as headliners for the day. Guitar master Eric Gales will represent the blues with guest appearance by Castro “Mr. Sipp” Coleman, aka “The Mississippi Blues Child.” Vocalist Michelle Coltrane performing with the Piedmont Triad Jazz Orchestra and special guest, High Point born trumpeter, Jason Palmer.
The John Coltrane International Jazz and Blues Festival will be held Aug.31 – Sept. 1, 2019 in Oak Hollow Festival Park, High Point, NC. The yearly celebration of jazz and blues music honors Coltrane, a High Point, NC native son, who graduated from William Penn High School, now Penn Griffin School of the Arts.
