The 62nd Annual Conclave of Chums, Inc. was held on October 19-22, 2023, in Cleveland, OH. All 36 chapters were represented.
During the Conclave, it was announced that two national organizations were recognized for their impactful work with African American youth. Black Girls Code and Life Pieces to Masterpieces were each awarded $5,000.
The National Founders Scholarship was awarded to four outstanding seniors, Sharlee Shaw (Orlando, FL), Nana Amponsah (Chicago, IL), Mark Anthony (Tri-City, NC), and Zoie Brogdon (Los Angeles, CA).
Collectively, Chums served 19,215 people by providing goods or services from volunteerism and $165,340 was granted through the year’s local projects.
“Listen to the Children…enrich their lives” is the Chums’ national theme.
Pamela Edwards, the Roanoke chapter president, and her Hum, Bob, attended the Conclave. Also attending were Marla Burch, Stella Carpenter, Valerie Franklin, Carolyn Haley, Carol Shropshire-Wimbush, Francine McLaughlin, and Hum Sterling.
