West End Center for Youth will be holding its 5th Annual Spooky Sprint 5k on Saturday, Oct. 31 (Halloween morning)! The event will be held at the Wasena Park Picnic shelter and the racecourse will take part along the Roanoke River Greenway. Runners and walkers are encouraged to participate in this year’s Spooky Sprint 5k. Runners will be timed with awards given for best times in each age range.
A Costume Contest will also be held again this year. Participants are asked to dress up in their most creative costumes to run or walk in the 5k. The Costume Contest will start at 9:15 a.m. before the race! Costume contest winners will receive a framed certificate as well as a prize from a local business. An After Party will immediately follow the 5k event at the Wasena City Tap Room and Grill with food and live music available to race participants, their friends and family, (compliments of the sponsor Ryland Hubbard Merrill Lynch! The awards ceremony will be held at the After Party at 12:00 noon.
Participants can register online in advance via the Spooky Sprint 5k’s website, www.wecspookysprint.com, until Friday, Oct. 23.
Participants can also register on the day of the event from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Registration fees: Advance, Adult $20 (day of – $25); Child $15 (day of $20).
Packet Pickup will take place at Fleet Feet Sports, 4347 Franklin Road, on October 30, as well as at the registration table on morning of the event. All participants who pre-register are guaranteed a 2015 Spooky Sprint long sleeved t-shirt!
