Who is Anthony Warren, and how would you describe yourself to someone who has never met you?
I am a driven, dependable, and people-focused individual who takes pride in everything I do. I value integrity, accountability, and building strong relationships with the people around me. I also believe success is not just about what you accomplish for yourself, but also about how you encourage, support, and help others along the way.
Where were you born and raised? What was your upbringing like?
I was born and raised in Roanoke on Roarer Avenue. From an early age, I was taught the importance of prayer, having a relationship with God, respecting others and living according to my faith.
Church has always been a major part of my life. Serving the Lord is central to my life and has helped shape who I am today. Looking back, I am grateful for the foundation I was given. Being raised in a God-centered home instilled in me faith, discipline, perseverance, humility, and a desire to make a positive difference in others’ lives.
After high school, what was the next chapter of your life?
I began to discover more about who I was, what I was capable of, and what God had planned for me. I understood that life after high school would require me to make important decisions, take on greater responsibilities, and work toward building a future for myself. I learned through experience that every opportunity, whether big or small, can teach you something valuable and prepare you for the next level.
What is your official title, and what do your responsibilities consist of?
My official title is General Manager of Holiday Inn Tanglewood. In this role, I am responsible for the overall operation, performance and success of the hotel. My responsibilities include overseeing daily hotel operations, managing and supporting employees, maintaining high standards of guest service, and ensuring that our guests have a safe, clean, comfortable, and enjoyable experience.
Being a General Manager is more than simply managing a hotel. It requires leadership, accountability, communication, problem-solving, and the ability to bring people together toward a common goal. I take pride in leading by example and creating an environment where both our employees and guests feel valued and respected.
How important is family to you?
My family is one of the greatest blessings in my life. They have been a source of love, encouragement, strength, and support, and I never take that for granted. I believe family is about more than simply being related by blood. It is about being there for one another, supporting each other through difficult times, celebrating each other’s accomplishments, and creating memories together.
If you were building the ultimate music playlist for a six-hour road trip, which artists would be on it?
My playlist would be full of songs that encourage me, lift my spirit, and remind me of God’s goodness and faithfulness. I enjoy music that allows me to worship, reflect, and simply enjoy the journey.
Artists such as Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Marvin Sapp, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Yolanda Adams, Tamela Mann, Donald Lawrence, The Clark Sisters, Kevin Lemons & Higher Calling, and Vincent Bohanan would be on it.
What are some of your favorite City of Roanoke memories?
Some of my favorites go back to growing up here in the 90s and early 2000s. Roanoke was a different place in many ways, and there was something special about growing up in a community where you knew your neighbors, families looked out for one another, and there was always something happening around the city.
I have great memories of going downtown, spending time at the Roanoke City Market, going to the Salem Civic Center for events, and enjoying time at local parks and community gatherings, just to name a few.
What are some of your hobbies?
My favorite hobbies include spending time with family and friends, listening to Gospel music, traveling, and being involved in church and ministry. I also enjoy supporting church events and finding ways to serve and encourage others.
Which people have had the biggest impact on your life outside of family?
Two such individuals are my pastor, Superintendent George Bond, and my godmother, Tonia Jackson. Tonia has been someone I can look to for love, encouragement, wisdom, and support. Her presence and influence have helped me through different seasons of my life and reminded me of the importance of staying true to who I am.
Through his leadership, guidance, and example, George has encouraged me to grow in my faith, remain committed to serving the Lord, and understand the importance of leadership and responsibility.
If you could go back and give your younger self some advice, what would it be?
“Trust God, trust the process, and don’t be afraid to become the person God has called you to be.”
I would remind myself not to worry so much about what other people think or compare my journey to someone else’s. Everyone’s path is different, and God’s timing is not always our timing. There will be challenges, disappointments, and moments when you may question yourself, but those experiences can help build your character and prepare you for what is ahead.
