Apple Ridge Farm is pleased to announce the gift of $25,000, awarded by the Walmart Foundation. The gift will fund the “Send a Kid to Camp” Campaign for Summer 2016.
Peter Lewis, Founder, President and CEO of Apple Ridge Farm, accepted the contribution, and said, “We are thrilled to have this level of support from our own area, but to gain support regionally is so appreciated!”
“Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are delighted to support Apple Ridge Farm,” said Brooke Mueller, director Government Relations and Public Affairs, Walmart. “Their “Send a Kid to Camp” Campaign allows children to attend academic summer camp and helps continue to shape the future of youth in the community.”
All proceeds from this grant will support the mission of Apple Ridge Farm. A 96-acre, rural mountainside camp and retreat, Apple Ridge Farm provides academic fortification, outdoor experiences, character building and life skills for underrepresented youth. In its 27th year of Helping Kids Grow and helping to shape the future of the Roanoke Valley, Apple Ridge Farm demonstrates life-changing experiences and enhanced achievement in school and in career.
The summer camp, educational, and retreat facility includes an Astronomy viewing site, the General Electric Dark Sky Observatory, recreational courts, a swimming pool, high ropes challenge, a zip-line, and miles of trails and ponds for environmental education. Three train cabooses have been added, and are being renovated for overnight accommodations for the meeting and retreat center.
