Do you know who you are? Do you know what defines you?
“Do you know in what Dispensation ye exist? Have ye not heard that at the consummation of the ages there would dawn a Day the sum total of all former ages combined? THIS IS THAT DAY!
In the estimation of historians the academic, scientific and technological advancement of this Day far exceeds ALL FORMER AGES COMBINED!
Too often we allow ourselves to drift aimlessly or simply follow the lead of others whose determination, advancement and achievements have become points of admiration and/or envy.
Have you any idea how special you are or for what purpose you may have been uniquely created? Do you have any remote idea of how special this Roanoke Valley is?
Such indescribable emotion became more apparent to me while witnessing the local Branch NAACP’s 19thAnnual Citizen of the Year Awards extravaganza held Friday, evening, May 5, at the Holiday Inn Tanglewood.
With the theme, “Seeking Equality for All,” local NAACP President Brenda Hale and related committees forged a maximum of information, presentations, recognitions and honorariums upon innumerable deserving recipients in record time! Included were ACSO youth under the loving and expert direction of Gloria Randolph-King who, coupled with NAACP President Brenda Hale, have positively influenced more youth through their continuous persistent involvement in local, state and national youth projects and competitions.
Also among the innumerable highlights of the fantastic evening were oral and visual presentations by special guest speakers, eloquent native American, Kara Denise Brewer Boyd and her husband, Dr. John W. Boyd, Jr., a pioneer advocate for the rights of Black farmers.
The entire evening of fantastic presentations, too lengthy to elaborate upon, was expertly facilitated by MC Kianna Price Wade, daughter of Roanoke City Vice Mayor Anita Price and Harrison Museum Curator Charles Price. Also it was their 11-year-old daughter/granddaughter, Kennady Makiah Wade, who stole the show with her poise and professionalism as she belted out her popular solo.
Before taking you through the entire evening of exciting events, further complemented by delicious food, I yield with the prayer that it was all taped for future presentations for those who missed the evening of perpetual pride and appreciation as well as for those of us who were there to witness the uniqueness of this Roanoke Valley–mentioned by name over a century ago in the early stages of this New Era by a Central Figure of the Baha’i Faith who stated: “When Roanoke is well established it will affect the entire South!”
Be still and know-–it is becoming increasingly evident, to those of perception, of Roanoke’s unique role in serving as a model of love and unity for this nation and the nations of the world! (Investigate!–1-800-22UNITE)
