Billy Sample, former Major League baseball player, will be the featured speaker at the Roanoke Valley Sports Club meeting on Monday, March 21, at the Salem Civic Center. Meeting activities begin at 5:45 p.m. with the dinner at 6:00 p.m. and speaker at 6:45p.m.
Sample played outfield with the Texas Rangers, New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves between 1978 and 1986 with seven out of the nine years with the Rangers. His total batting average was .272 with .270 with the Rangers, .288 with the Yankees and .285 with the Braves.
Sample graduated from Andrew Lewis High School and James Madison University He was drafted by the Texas Rangers of the 1976 amateur draft. In addition, Alan Lawrence of the Salem Red Sox will present information about the coming Carolina League baseball season.
