The Roanoke Chapter Continental Societies, Inc. will sponsor its 5th Annual Black Girls Really Rock Scholarship Fundraiser at 5:00 pm Saturday, Feb. 13, in the William Fleming High School Auditorium. This year’s program honors the achievements of eight local African-American women and four high school young ladies in the Roanoke Valley.
The 2016 Black Girls Really Rock honorees are: Pat Curtis for local business; Marylen Harmon for education; Brenda Howard for philanthropy; Diane Jones for community service; Melinda Payne for community activism; Anita Price, civic leader; Gloria Randolph-King, political action and Carla Shepherd, humanitarian.
The Making A Difference (M.A.D.) Girl Awardees are: Jasmine Armster, daughter of Marty and Virginia Armster and a student at William Fleming High School; Danashia Dunnaville, daughter of George and Suzanne Dunnaille, Northside High School; Sydnee Evans, daughter of Dwayne and Dr. Deneen Evans, Roanoke Valley Christian School and Kaitlyn Shaw, daughter of Kenneth Shaw, Eva Shaw-Gill and Demare Gill, William Fleming.
The evening includes light hors d’oeuvres and features entertainment by the Jefferson Center’s Music Lab Gospel Band and Morgan McAfee. Please come out and support these outstanding community servants.
