At its World Community Day meeting on December 1, Church Women United in the Roanoke Valley announced the establishment of an annual Shero’s Award. The recipient is a woman who, over the course of her lifetime, has given her time, energy, and gifts to enhance the people and place where she lives and has a long track record of serving as the hands and feet of Jesus.
Sister Doris Marie Dillard was named as the inaugural recipient of the Shero’s Award. At the age of 96 she is will actively in Kingdom-building work through Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in Roanoke where she has been in charge of the food bank for over 30 years.
