The City of Roanoke is seeking public input on how to best direct funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in the Melrose-Orange Target Area (MOTA). Residents, both homeowners and renters, property owners, businesses and other stakeholders in the target area, as well as the general public, are encouraged to complete a brief survey to inform the city as to what eligible activities are most in need. This area, in Northwest Roanoke, incorporates 10th Street to 24th Street, and Loudon Avenue to Hanover Avenue.
HUD funds, which are received annually by the city, are intended to serve low- to moderate-income persons, provide economic opportunities, address blighting influences, and meet public infrastructure needs. The city targets specific areas of the community to receive a majority of these funds to help revitalize neighborhoods, improve affordable housing, provide public services, and encourage private investment.
Results of the survey will help city staff to program funds for Fiscal Year 2017-2018 into MOTA and the rest of the city, in order to maximize the benefits to be provided from the use of these funds.
