On April 15 2016, U.S. Navy Commander John E. Eaves, Jr. retired after 20 years of distinguished service.
John E. Eaves, Jr. was born in Roanoke, VA and grew up in Pine Bluff, AR. Upon graduating from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Sciences, CDR Eaves entered Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL and was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy Rescue Reserve on July 5, 1996.
Following graduation from OCS and flight indoctrination, CDR Eaves was assigned to the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) and was deployed twice (1998,2000) during which time he completed the Naval Intelligence Officer Basic Course and received the designation of naval intelligence officer.
In 2000, CDR Eaves worked with the U.S. Joint Force Command’s Joint Warfighting Center in Suffolk, VA. While working with the office of the Chief Naval Operations N2 staff in 2003 he served as Intelligence Watch officer monitoring global terrorism and threats to U.S. Navy assets; navy watch officer to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and all source Asia Pacific Analyst.
He received a Master’s of Science in Strategic Intelligence in 2005, and in September 2006, CDR Eaves was assigned to the U.S. Seventh Fleet in Yokosuka, Japan for an operational intelligence assignment on the USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19).
In 2008, CDR Eaves served as Senior Intelligence Officer for Joint Command and Control Intelligence for the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington, D.C. and on 2012, he worked with the US Strategic Command where he served as Airborne and Enterprise Team Chief within the performance and analysis assessments division. His duties include mentoring and leading both military and civilian officers throughout all geographical combatant commands.
Since retiring from the Navy he has been hired as a government consultant working in Washington, D.C. supporting military information technology improvements. He is also the property manager of Cove Road Associates LLC, located in Roanoke, managing five properties in the area. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, married to Dr. Jacque Eaves, PhD and they have two children, Janae and Joshua.
