The Roanoke Chapter Continental Societies, Inc. sponsored a career fair at Forest Park Academy on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016 with five panelists in a round table discussion in the school’s auditorium. Included on the panel were Matt Sharkey, District Manager of Golden Corral; Happy Ruben, manager for Advance Auto; Mike Hamlar, of Hamlar and Curtis Funeral Home; Tina Bousman, from TAP; Karen Pillis, Roanoke Area Youth Substance Abuse Coalition (RAYSAC).
After the round table discussion, Principal Eric Anderson and Counselor Jerel Rhodes allowed the guest speakers to move to individual classrooms as students rotated and were able to participate in question/answer periods. The panelists spoke about educational backgrounds, life choices, salary ranges and any other questions the students needed answered.
The Employment Committee also provided speakers for a second Career Fair for the Continental Angels on Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Gainsboro Library. The guest speakers were Councilwoman, Anita James Price (guidance counselor), Eva Shaw-Gill from Mary Kay and Karen Carney (music and tutoring services). Each of the women shared their educational backgrounds, career choices and spoke about salary ranges.
Continental Lorena Wilson is chairperson of the Employment Committee and Donna Lee is president of the local chapter.
