The Roanoke Chapter Continental Societies, Inc. served approximately 75 “21st Century” (after school) students, parents, siblings and staff on Thursday, Nov. 17, in the Lincoln Terrace Elementary cafeteria.
Under the leadership of Continental Patricia Baker, the Health Committee spearheaded this project as the members sought to bring healthy and nutritious eating to these youth. Thanksgiving dinner was the perfect opportunity to share these foods with them. The delicious meal consisted of roasted turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, fresh green beans, rolls with pies and cookies for dessert.
The students were excited and very grateful to the Continentals for this experience. Some did not want to eat the green beans but the students were told that everyone had to try them. The green beans were so good, they came back for more.
The ladies gave each student a bag of healthy instant breakfast items consisting of cereal, apple juice and graham crackers to eat the day after Thanksgiving,
