It’s estimated that 76% of K-12 teachers assign Internet-based homework. Where does this leave children who don’t have access to the Internet or a computer at home to complete their homework? Many of those children are simply getting left behind; their graduation rates are 6 to 8 percent lower than similar students who have Internet access at home.
Thanks to a partnership between Cox, Con-nect2Compete and Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia, 100 new participants who enroll in Connect2Compete will receive free computers, in addition to access to discounted high speed internet services through Connect2Compete. Cox’s pilot computer program is available only to eligible families who enroll in Connect2Compete during the computer giveaway event.
Connect2Compete is a national not-for-profit initiative that aims to extend Internet access to families with children in grades K through 12 receiving free lunches through the National School Lunch program by offering discounted high-speed Internet service. Families that qualify are eligible for high-speed Internet service for $9.95 per month, a free modem rental and free professional installation with no contracts to sign and no deposits.
To be eligible for Con-nect2Compete families must: Have at least one child receiving free lunches through the National School Lunch program or eligible for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
