Cynthia Butler-McIntyre, the 24th National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., was the invited guest of Independent Women Achieving Goals In Education (I.W.A.G.E.) on Friday, April 8, 2016, for a program held in the Hurlburt Auditorium at Radford University. As keynote speaker, Mrs. Butler-McIntyre presented an inspirational poem as an introduction to her sensational and memorable speech for the faculty, students and members of Delta Sigma Theta sorority in attendance. Her speech focused on leadership as presented to the members of I.W.A.G.E. and students; as well as, how to best prepare for future challenges.
As Delta Sigma Theta’s 24th National President, Cynthia Butler-McIntyre provided phenomenal and distinguished leadership for five years (2008-2013) and proudly led the sorority into the Delta Centennial Celebration as Centennial President. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. celebrated its 100th anniversary in January, 2013 and the 51st National Convention in July, 2013, both held on Washington, DC.
On September 6, 2015, President Obama announced his intent to appoint Mrs. Butler-McIntyre, a Dillard University alumna, to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation, an independent federal government agency established to encourage and support research, study and labor designed to produce new discoveries in all fields of endeavor for the benefit of all mankind.
Delta chapter members from the following were in attendance for this historical event: Alumnae chapters of Roanoke; Blacksburg; Bluefield, WV; Lynchburg and Collegiate Chapters—Tau Omega and Mu Alpha.
An enjoyable and delightful dinner was held at the Summit Restaurant in Christiansburg, VA in honor of Cynthia Butler-McIntyre for this celebrated occasion. Diane Jones, Roanoke Chapter president, and the Roanoke Alumnae chapter members were appreciative of this opportunity to meet, share and fellowship with her.
