President message – In 202 help turn things around; Build a Playground! 20,000 will do it now!
100 Years Strong and now we are on the cusp of “raising children by raising a playground!” The gift of play is our 100th Anniversary legacy contribution to Roanoke, building on an amazing century of service. Thanks to the generosity of our Kiwanians and so many community partners who believe fervently in the benefit of this playground to our neighbors in need. The Kiwanis Centennial Playground is coming soon! Two swings at Horton Part for the almost 1000 schoolchildren living in the Melrose-Orange neighborhood is NOT OK!!!
Neighborhood meetings have captured the hopes and dreams of families, who would like their children and youth (and themselves) to have a play space within walking distance. This section of Roanoke is poised for revitalization with its new library and youth Center – our playground will add to the positive synergy gaining traction! You can help with a gift of any level that is possible for you at www.roanokekiwanis.org; and click on the Playground donation button.
We are 95% of the way in the climb to the goal! This final 5% will guarantee that we can include all of the exciting pieces of equipment that make the playground fully accessible to children of ALL abilities. If you wish to make a donation, we still have space for bricks engraved with your name (donation $500) and pavers (donation $1000) or maybe an upgrade? It’s not to late! Ordering and placement of pavers will commence in a few weeks. Final equipment sponsorships are being engraved on plaques and will be available soon. We have swung into action to raise $20,000 by June 9, by reaching out to the community and asking our amazing club member’s for support. All gifts of any amount help.
A grassroots campaign “2020: Help to Turn Things Around – Build a Playground” aiming to attract lots of $20.20 donations during this 4-week period.
Donations to the Kiwanis Foundation of Roanoke are tax deductible. Contributions can made on the website you www.roanokekiwanis.org or send check to John Montgomery; P O Box 19313, Roanoke, VA 24019 or give at a local business in NW Roanoke, who has agreed to be a Playground Pal. The Ground Breaking Ceremony is attentively planned for Tuesday, May 19, 2020.
The Kiwanis club has added to the legacy of service and made an amazing impact on the beautiful City of Roanoke, where we believe all children deserve access to a healthy active life and All families can dream of a good future for loved ones.
