FERRUM – The sixth annual Ferrum College Forum on Critical Thinking, Innovation & Leadership, focuses this year on the theme “Government Seizures of Property,” and will be held Monday, March 14, at the Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center in Roanoke.
Forum sessions will include a series of presentations from leading experts on the subject, a panel discussion, and a question and answer period for attendees. Registration begins at 8 a.m. followed by the program from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Corporate sponsorship tables are available at several different levels. Individuals are welcome. The $50 per person includes continental breakfast, forum sessions, and a networking luncheon.
The 2016 Forum will examine pertinent sections of the Fifth Amendment as it addresses eminent domain, civil asset forfeitures, and just compensation from a variety of perspectives.
Panelists will include: Jeffrey R. Allen, senior assistant Attorney General, Chief, Transportation Section, Office of the Virginia Attorney General; Coleman Bazelon, principal, The Brattle Group; Elliott Casey, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney, Special Assistant United States Attorney, County of Albemarle, Western District of Virginia; Julia D. Mahoney, John S. Battle Professor of Law, University of Virginia; and Rob Poggenklass, Tony Dunn Legal Fellow, ACLU of Virginia, Adjunct Professor, William & Mary School of Law. Connie Stevens, News Director for WVTF/RADIO IQ & Virginia Public Radio, will serve as the Forum moderator.
